The UN General Assembly is holding a special session on the Russian invasion of Ukrainein the week in which the first anniversary is fulfilled.

The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrellhas moved to New York with 25 Eurozone ministers. Instead of the ambassadors taking the floor, the European Union has posted 25 ministers who will speak on behalf of their countries in order to give greater political prominence and show an image of unity (of Europe internally, and also of unity with Ukraine) behind a common goal.

The session will continue at least throughout the dayThursdayand it is possible that it will be prolonged even until fridaydepending on how many of the 193 members of the UN take the floor.

The resolution approved by the Assembly will not be binding but mainly symbolic. At the moment, 68 countries have given their approval. The big question is Yeah the so-called “western” countries (the EU, the US, Canada, Japan and Australia, mainly) achieve support greater than 143 votes that last october condemned in the Assembly the Russian attempts to annex parts of Ukraine after the holding of four illegal referendums.
