erzinin Hatay province, just 160 kilometers from the epicenter of the catastrophic earthquake last week in turkey has survived the debacle. Unlike other nearby cities, it has not been reduced to rubble.
And the reason is no miracle: it’s science. Because in Erzín the construction regulations were complied with, it was the only one in the area and that has saved the lives of its neighbors. The earthquake caused between Turkey and Syria more than 36,000 dead and razed entire cities. But there were no victims in Erzín and no building collapsed either.
Life now goes on as before the earthquake. In Alexandretta, also 160 kilometers from the epicenterthe situation is quite different: completely destroyed.
In Erzín, building regulations were respected, with none with more than six floors, and illegal construction is prosecuted and punished.
