At least 6,000 children have been transferred by Russian troops to areas under the control of the Russian Government since the start of the war, evidencing war crimes by Moscowaccording to a report.
The investigation, carried out by the Conflict Observatory, a program supported by the US State Department, has identified several dozen facilities where children from Ukraine have been relocated, providing evidence of the systematic efforts to cut off communication between children and family members.
The objective of this lack of contact with the families would be prevent the return of minors and “re-educate” them in Russian culture with the aim of giving them up for adoption to families in Russia, according to a statement from the State Department.
The office led by Antony Blinken has indicated that the results of this report “reinforce the US and international determination to seek accountability for all those involved in war crimes and other atrocities committed in Ukraine.”
Thus, the documentation has identified several dozen Russian officials, as well as others, all implicated in the deportation of children from Ukrainemaking it “clear that Russia’s systematic efforts reflect decisions and actions taken at all levels of the Russian government.”
“Mounting evidence of Russia’s actions lays bare the Kremlin goals of denying and suppressing Ukrainian identity, history and culture. The devastating effects of Putin’s war on the children of Ukraine will be felt for generations,” reads the letter in which Washington has once again reiterated its support for Ukraine.
