Living between bombs on the front lines of the war in Ukraine: “Why should I leave?”

laSexta Noticias has verified what life is like on the front lines of the war in Ukraine. Among the stories we have witnessed is that of Raiisa, a 75-year-old woman who left Donbas with her family. After scrambling into a van, she died of a heart attack, much to the grief of her grandson.

Another testimony is that of Nadiesna, who witnessed how a missile destroyed his house: “A neighbor was throwing away the garbage and the missile fell on the garages. She started the fire and it was flying all over the place.” She lives in Kostiantynivka, 10 kilometers from the center of Bakhmut.

Most of the people who stay in their hometowns because of the war are pensioners who refuse to be evacuated. Those who do, queue for hunger to try to resist. “My son is buried here. Why should I leave?asks a pensioner.

A woman also remembers the “terrifying” moment who lived when Russian soldiers shot her from a few centimeters away, punching her and mutilating her with a knife.
