Argentina announces increases for retirees to offset losses due to inflation

Argentina announced this Friday an increase in retirement and pensions of 17.04% along with a bonus of 15,000 pesos for 3 months (78 dollars) for those who receive the lowest pensions, which will raise the minimum retirement to 73,665 pesos (386 dollars).

The Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, together with the director of the National Social Security Administration (Anses), Fernanda Raverta, announced that the increases will benefit 6,100,000 people to compensate for the losses in purchasing power due to high inflation. that registers the country.

“This measure for retirees and pensioners will allow us to follow the path to follow in the next three months to improve basic retirement but, in addition, reinforcement from the State to guarantee that income is improved”, expressed Massa during the official announcement.

Regarding the bonus of 15,000 pesos, this will be paid in March, April and May with the intention of moderating inflation -which reached 94.8% year-on-year at the end of last year- and will be intended for those who receive up to a minimum retirement, but it will decrease progressively up to 5,000 pesos (26 dollars) for those who receive up to two minimum wages.

The head of the economic portfolio indicated that this will be the first of four increases for retirees and pensioners throughout this year.

For her part, the head of Anses indicated that with these increases, as of the third month of the year, “No retiree will earn less than 73,000 pesos.”
