Buildings in Poland will be assessed for their environmental performance. “Eco-building is coming”

According to calculations, the building sector is responsible for 36 percent. greenhouse gas emissions. For this reason, the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) of the European Parliament voted on Thursday a draft revision of the Energy Efficiency of Buildings Directive (EPBD). This means big changes for Poland as well.

Photovoltaics on all houses

First of all, it set several dates by which certain buildings are to become zero-emission. An important deadline has been set for 2029, when all new residential buildings are to be equipped with photovoltaics.

In addition, a ban on the sale of gas boilers is to be introduced from 2029, and in 2025 subsidies for fossil-fired boilers will be eliminated. At the same time, by 2026, the EU wants to install 20 million heat pumps in the Member States, and as many as 60 million by 2030, he enumerates.

However, the main goal is to make all new buildings in the European Union zero-emission by 2030, and transform existing ones by 2050.

The buildings will get an energy class

For this reason, Member States have to change the energy performance. have already started pre-consultations on the draft regulation providing for the methodology for their determination. These characteristics will be described in the form of energy classes that will replace the popular slider.

It will be nothing more than an energy pass with a rating. The energy class will rank buildings on a scale from A+ (the best) to G (the worst). The appropriate letter will be awarded based on the level of annual consumption for a given building, as well as the scale of pollutants emitted by it. However, single-family houses, multi-family buildings, public buildings or economic buildings will be classified separately.

Green transformation. “Eco-building is coming”

The ITRE Commission predicts that by 2030 buildings should reach class E, and by 2033 – class D. Non-residential and public buildings, on the other hand, are to be modernized faster, by 2027 and 2030, according to . “Eco-construction and thermo-modernization are coming” – predicts Tomasz Narkun, real estate market analyst.

The Ministry of Development and Technology is conducting pre-consultations regarding the designation of the aforementioned energy classes until February 28.
