The Government of Nicaragua released a letter from Kim Jong-un, in which it is pleased to extend “warm congratulations on behalf of the Government and people of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.”

“I take this opportunity to express my conviction that the relations of friendship and collaboration between our peoples will be further intensified and developed,” he continued.

The Nicaraguan president, who today turns 76, was re-elected for a fifth and fourth consecutive term with 75.87% of the votes in the general elections last Sunday, considered “illegitimate” by the majority of the international community, including the United States, which described them as “pantomime”.

In the case of Iran, the Government published a letter from Raisí in which it expresses its “most sincere congratulations” to Ortega and his wife, Vice President Rosario Murillo, who was also re-elected, as well as to the Sandinista National Liberation Front, for their triumph in the Sunday elections.

According to the Iranian president, the presidential couple and the Sandinistas achieved “the overwhelming support of the revolutionary and resistant people” of Nicaragua, “despite constant conspiracies and attacks”.

“I am sure that, just as the coincidence of the triumph of the revolutions in both countries has united us during the last 43 years, the simultaneity of the election of its new Government and the Government chosen by the Iranian people this year will open a new chapter of greater deepening of the friendly relations of both nations in all fields ”, he pointed out.

He predicted that relations will be strengthened “especially in commercial and economic matters, as well as the continuity of cooperation and reciprocal support in different forums and international organizations.”

The elections have been questioned due to the arrest since last June of seven presidential candidates of the opposition who were emerging as the main contenders for Ortega and for the elimination of three political parties.
