Year-on-year inflation in Germany stood at 8.7% in January, according to preliminary data published this Thursday by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). Compared to December, the consumer price index (CPI) rose 1.0%.
Year-on-year inflation thus rose slightly in January after easing slightly in December, when it reached 8.6%, after 10.0% in November and 10.4% in October, when it marked a maximum. Compared to November, the CPI had fallen by 0.8%.
As for the whole of 2022, the average inflation rate stood at 7.9%an annual rate significantly higher than that of previous years and of 3.1% in 2021. The harmonized CPI for Germany, which is calculated using community criteria, rose 9.2% in interannual terms in January and 0 .5% compared to the previous month.
