Fernando Ruiz, head of the Department of Wildlife of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semaren), reported that the former director ordered in December that four pygmy goats will be sacrificed (males) to use them in the 2022 farewell inn.

The animals were cooked in the facilities of the same zoo. This, the authorities noted, represents a public health problem.

According to El País, Nava faces charges for wildlife trafficking and animal abuse, in addition to crimes against health.

The slaughter of goats in Chilpancingo, Guerrero, is an ‘abuse’, considered a zoo director in the 1980s for N+Media.

“This is a catastrophe, I am surprised that this is happening in these times,” said María Elena Hoyos, who was in charge of the Chapultepec Zoo.

The EFE agency also added that during the time that Nava was in charge as director there were several births in the zoo that were not registered and apocryphal records about the deaths of other animals.

The list of irregularities includes, according to Radio Formula, that barbary sheep were sold, a macaw, a jaguarundi and 10 snakes are missing, in addition to the fact that a deer died due to negligence.

That deer, whose antlers would have been cut, was rescued by residents of the area. They said he had dog bites.

The animal would have been sutured without anesthesia, there was no due care and it died.
