Ukraine adopts LED bulbs to save energy against bombings

Ukraine announced on Friday that began to replace millions of classic electric light bulbs with energy-saving LED bulbs donated by the European Union (EU) to alleviate the energy crisis caused by Russian bombing.

About some months ago, Moscow carries out systematic bombardments against Ukrainian energy infrastructure, which leaves many inhabitants without electricity and heating in the dead of winter.

The EU had announced in December a package of 30 million dollars to finance the purchase of 30 million LED bulbs that would help Ukrainians reduce their electricity consumption.

“The program to replace old bulbs with LED bulbs (…) started this week,” Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmygal wrote on Twitter. More than 750,000 bulbs have already been replaced in three days, he added.

Shmygal thanked the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, who is in kyiv for an EU-Ukraine summit, in which the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, also participates.

We work tirelessly together to restore vital energy infrastructure”, Von der Leyen said Thursday.

According to the European official said in December, these bulbs consume 88% less electricity than the old generation. (YO)
