The Unique Population Registry Code (curp) is an instrument used to register all persons residing in Mexiconational and foreign, as well as Mexicans living in other countries.
According to the Official Gazette of the Federation, the CURP is generated from the basic data (name, surname, sex, date and place of birth) with which a person is identified in their supporting documents.

What is the CURP for?
As mentioned, the CURP is necessary to process all types of official documents in Mexico. Without it, you will not be able to carry out any procedure before the Public Administration dependencies, nor be benefited by the programs offered by the Government.

How is the CURP assigned?
In the case of Mexicans by birth, the CURP process can only be carried out through the Civil Registry and in the Consular Offices of Mexico abroad.

On the other hand, naturalized Mexicans will have a CURP assigned through the National Institute of Migration (INM) or the General Coordination of the Mexican Commission for Aid to Refugees (Comar), which must be established in the supporting document issued by the Secretariat of Foreign Relations (SRE).
For foreigners who request refugee status and complementary protection, political asylum applicants, with a condition of stay for visitors or with a condition of stay for temporary or permanent residents, the CURP will be assigned by the valid instances (Comar and INM) once resolved. the request according to the case and according to the fulfillment of the established procedures.
How to start the process of my CURP?
In order to process your CURP it is necessary that you present a copy of a birth certificate, naturalization letter or an immigration document (FM2 or FM3 format).
