Red Cross warns that the world is “ill-prepared” for the next pandemic

the world goes on “dangerously ill-prepared” for the next pandemicwarned the Red Cross on Monday, warning of the probability that future health crises will occur at the same time as natural disasters related to climate change.

According to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) there is a “serious lack” of strong prevention and preparedness systemsdespite the deficiencies that were revealed in the three years of the covid-19 pandemic.

The world’s largest humanitarian network believes that trust, equity and local action they should be the basis for preparing for the next crisis.

For the IFRC, governments are no more prepared now than in 2019when the covid-19 virus was discovered in China.

That’s why he asks that countries prepare for “multiple risks, not just one”, as two crises can occur simultaneously, such as a weather-related natural disaster and an epidemic.

“The COVID-19 pandemic should be a wake-up call for the global community to prepare now for the next health crisis,” said IFRC Secretary General Jagan Chapagain.

“The next pandemic could be imminent and if the experience of the covid-19 does not accelerate the preparations, what will?”, he pointed out.

The IFRC also calls for the development of cheaper products that are easier to store and manage to deal with the pandemic.

According to his estimates, countries should increase national health financing by 1% of gross domestic product until 2025. (YO)
