The documents in question were found last week and are already in the hands of the FBI, Republican Congressman James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, reported Tuesday.
Pence “informed us today of the classified documents found at his home in Indiana”Comer said in a statement. He added that the potential 2024 presidential candidate agrees to “fully cooperate” with any congressional investigation.
It is not known at the moment what information the documents contain or the level of confidentiality that had been assigned to them, indicates afp.
The announcement comes days after the discovery of classified documents will be revealed in the private office and residence of the Democratic president Joe Biden.
His predecessor in office, the former Republican president donald trumpis accused of having obstructed justice due to an FBI investigation that found a large number of documents in his house.
“Former Vice President Pence’s transparency stands in stark contrast to Biden’s White House staffwhich continues to withhold information from Congress and the American people,” Comer added, without mentioning the Trump case.
Pence asked his lawyer to search his house for “extreme caution”, reported CNN, citing anonymous sources, and the attorney began going through four boxes stored at Pence’s home last week. He found a “small quantity” of documents marked as classified, he added. (YO)
