The European Union approves a new package of sanctions against Iran for the repression of protests

The foreign ministers of the European Union have agreed a new package of sanctions against iran. This has been announced by the Swedish presidency of the EU, announcing that these Sanctions will be directed at those who promote the repression in the citizen protests that have been taking place after the death of the young Masha Amini.

“The EU strongly condemns the brutal and disproportionate use of force by the Iranian authorities against peaceful protesters,” the presidency said in a tweet, without giving further details. Specifically, the sanctions will go against 37 individuals and entities responsible for the repression of pro-democracy demonstrations in Iran.

The EU is concerned about the spiral of violence unleashed by Tehran and that is why it will apply the fifth round of consecutive sanctions against the Iranian authorities, adding to its ‘black list’ 37 people responsible for the persecution of the demonstrators.
