At least 10 people have died in a shooting occurred at the end of the Chinese New Year celebrations in the city of Monterey Park, east of los angeles, as confirmed by the County Sheriff’s Office. There are another 10 people injured, and at least one of them is very serious.
The incident began at the end of the celebration of the Chinese community, around 10:30 p.m. local time (07:30 a.m. in mainland Spain), according to witnesses cited by the Los Angeles media, for which it is believed that the shooting has racist overtones.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sergeant Bob Boese has confirmed that the shooter is a man who is currently on the run of the authorities, as he has made known at a press conference collected by the local affiliate of the CBS chain, KCAL News.
