The parent company of Googlethe Alphabet company, announced this Friday a global plan to cut 12,000 jobsfollowing a trend of other technology giants of implement a large-scale restructuring.
“We have decided to reduce our workforce by approximately 12,000 jobs”, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said in an email sent to workers in which he specified that This cut is a response to “an economic reality we are facing today.”
The measure comes a day after Microsoft will report its plan to lay off 10,000 workers in the coming months. Other big tech companies such as Meta, which owns Facebook, Amazon and Twitter, had announced plans to cut staff at a time when the sector is grappling with economic turmoil.
“We have conducted a rigorous review across all product and activity areas to ensure that our people and positions are aligned with our highest priorities as a company,” Pichai wrote.
“The positions we are eliminating reflect the outcome of that review. The fact that these changes will have an impact on the lives of ‘Googlers’ weighs heavily on me, and I take full responsibility for the decisions that have led us to this point”, added the CEO. (YO)
