The president of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, announced his decision to separate 40 soldiers who were guarding the presidential residence on January 8, the day of the attacks by Bolsonaro supporters.
According to the president, in-depth investigations of the personnel will be opened on suspicion of “internal complicity.” Lula, 77, expressed distrust of some soldiers who perform auxiliary functions in government offices.
They release almost 600 people who participated in protests against Lula da Silva in Brasilia
“Someone made it easy for them to get in here,” the president said Thursday, referring to the outrages in Planalto. “Someone suspected of being a radical Bolsonaro cannot remain in here,” he said.
On Sunday, January 8, thousands of supporters of the former right-wing president, Jair Bolsonaro, stormed the Planalto Palace, the Congress and the Supreme Court, seeking the fall of Lula and destroying part of the infrastructure.
Although Bolsonaro denied any connection to the attacks, he is being investigated by Brazilian authorities on suspicion of having instigated the assault on the political heart of Brazil. (YO)
