A freighter from the Ukraine, which was on its way to Istanbul (Turkey), has stranded in the Bosphorus Strait this Monday, as reported by the Turkish maritime authorities.
The General Directorate of Coastal Safety of Turkey has reported that maritime traffic in the Bosphorus it has been suspended and rescue teams are working to return the ship to deeper waters.
“Several teams and rescue boats have quickly gone to the scene in search of the 142-meter-long ship called MKK-1,” the General Directorate said in a Twitter message.
No reports of possible injuries or environmental pollution. The Istanbul Governorate has declared that the grounding of the ship, which is traveling under the flag of the island of Palau, happened at 07:30 local time (04:30 GMT), apparently due to a failure in the ship’s rudder.
