The European Union is implementing the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS).
Until now, citizens of more than 60 countries, including most of Latin America, could stay in the European Schengen Area for a total of 90 days without applying for a visa.
But that will change as of November 2023 when the ETIAS permit comes into effect. In order to enter and travel through the Schengen Area, it will be necessary to process this electronic authorization.
If you are a refugee or asylum seeker in the United States, you can use that same visa to “ask” some relatives
What is the ETIAS visa?
The most important thing you have to know is that ETIAS will be a necessary permit to be able to travel throughout a large part of Europe for many nationalities as of November 2023.
It is a paid authorization, similar to the ESTA in the United States, in which you must enter your personal information so that it can be checked by international security sources.
Basically, what is analyzed is that you do not have a serious criminal record and that you do not represent a risk to the security of the area.
This is the list of the most powerful passports of 2023: Japanese can visit 193 countries without a visa
This permit is valid for those traveling for tourism, business, transit, or short-term medical treatment for a maximum period of 90 days.
The name of the permit comes from the acronym in English European Travel Information and Authorization System (System of information and authorization of travel in Europe).
What nationalities need an ETIAS permit?
If your passport is from one of the countries that until now could travel through the Schengen Area without having to apply for a visa, as of the entry into force of this new requirement you will need to request the ETIAS authorization.
The current list is of 60 nationalities, among which are most of Latin America:
- Argentina
- Brazil
- Chili
- Colombia
- Costa Rica
- The Savior
- Guatemala
- Honduras
- Mexico
- Nicaragua
- Panama
- Paraguayan
- Peru
- Uruguay
- Venezuela
As reported, this list may increase in the future. If your country is not on this list, such as Ecuador and Bolivia, then you will need to apply for a Schengen visa.
