Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was hospitalized and is “in observation” for “abdominal discomfort”, said his wife on Monday, after Brazilian media reported that he had been admitted to a hospital in the United States.
One day after thousands of supporters of the ex-president seized the headquarters of the three powers in Brasilia, Michelle Bolsonaro posted on Instagram that Bolsonaro is “under observation in hospital”, without giving indications of where it is located.
The hospitalization responds to a “abdominal discomfort resulting from the aftermath of the stab wound” that Bolsonaro suffered in 2018 and that have led him to undergo subsequent surgeries, said his wife.
Several Brazilian media had previously announced that the former president had been hospitalized in Orlando, Florida (southeastern United States).
According to the newspaper O Globo, Bolsonaro, 67, was admitted to AdventHealth Celebration Hospital due to “severe abdominal pain”.
Bolsonaro left Brazil two days before the end of his term, on December 31, for the United States, thus avoiding participating in the inauguration of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on January 1.
The former president has presented health problems derived from the stabbing that almost cost him his life in September 2018, just before his election as president.
Intestinal obstructions, occlusions or adhesions: he has been urgently hospitalized half a dozen times and re-operated six times since 2018.
