Holidays 2023 in Peru: what days will they be and how much pay do I get if I work?

The year began and many Peruvians are reviewing the new 2023 calendar to find out the days holidays corresponding to these 12 months. This in order to be able to schedule family trips or know the permits they have by law.

In this line, as established by the Legislative Decree 713, public and private sector workers who work during the dates declared as holidays have the right to receive additional compensation or substitute rest. Next, review what they are and how much companies must pay their employees.

What are the national holidays of 2023?

The National Superintendence of Labor Inspection (Sunafil) informs that the following dates are those that correspond to holidays:

  • New Year 1st of January
  • Thursday and Good Friday: April 6 and 7 (movable)
  • Labor Day: May 1
  • Saint Peter and Saint Paul: June 29
  • National Holidays: July 28 and 29
  • Battle of Junín: August 6
  • Saint Rose of Lima: August 30
  • Combat of Angamos: October 8
  • All Saints: November 1
  • Immaculate Conception: December 8
  • Battle of Ayacucho: December 9
  • Christmas is on the 25th of December.

How much should you receive if you work on a holiday?

Workers who work on these days and who do not have substitute rest must receive up to triple their salary, according to the following concepts:

  • A salary corresponding to the holiday
  • A payment for the work done
  • An additional amount equivalent to a surcharge of 100% of the remuneration corresponding to the work carried out.

Likewise, the sunafil warns that, if these aspects are not complied with, employers will receive a fine of S/1138.50 and S/3366.00, in the case of microenterprises. While for small companies the sanction ranges from S/3811.50 and S/37,867.50. Finally, for companies that are not mype, the fine is from S/13,018.50 to S/260,023.50.
