The abandonment of the profession by many doctors Y nurses due to exhaustion, among other factors, they are creating a deficit of health professionals that could reach up to 10 million worldwide by the end of 2030, a study by the World Economic Forum (WEF) warns today.
The report, released just days after the WEF opens its great annual meeting of political and economic leaders, known as the Davos Forum, analyzes the effects of the pandemic on global health, and highlights that it produced a 25% drop in essential health services, something that especially affected developing countries.
“The covid increased pressure on healthcare systems, disrupted global supply chains for essential products and pushed many overburdened healthcare workers to the brink”, concludes the study of WEF.
“The danger of violence (against these workers) and overload is real, and is the cause of many doctors considering pursuing other professions.”, the Indian doctor said in a forum statement Kashish Malhotra.
WEF underlines that the pandemic has contributed to accelerating areas of the health sector such as telemedicine that can help reduce staff shortages and improve access to medical consultations for people living in remote areas.
“With a Wi-Fi signal and better digital access, a patient in a rural area will be able to see a health worker in a nearby city or anywhere else in the world.”, highlights the report, which underlines the decrease in costs per patient that telemedicine can produce.
WEF It also underlines the increasing importance of artificial intelligence and robotics when it comes to supporting medical decision-making, remote diagnosis, managing drug delivery systems and carrying out patient control tasks in areas far from centers sanitary.
