The Brazilian police authorities have finished this Monday definitively lifting the last redoubt of the camp erected a little over two months ago by the followers of former President Jair Bolsonaro at the gates of the Army headquarters in Brasilia, one day after the assault on the headquarters Congress and the Supreme Court, and the presidential palace. These are settlements that were erected in front of military barracks by Bolsonaro’s supporters who were dissatisfied with his defeat by Lula. The intervention has resulted in the latest arrest of 1,200 people.

After the invasion of the main buildings of the Brazilian State, many of Bolsonaro’s faithful left yesterday on foot to the camp they maintain in front of the Army headquarters. However, this morning the police of the Federal District of Brasilia have dismantled said camp that Bolsonaro militants had set up after the October elections and from which the attacks on Sunday against the headquarters of the three powers were launched.

Agents of the Brasilia Military Police, reinforced by Army troops, have blocked the access to the camp early today to prevent the arrival of more protesters and have ordered the peaceful eviction of those who remained in the place.

The Government of Brasilia has chartered nearly forty buses to take some 1,200 stragglers still in camp and be transferred to Federal Police units, where they will be interrogated.

In addition, Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, one of the radicals’ targets, has ordered the temporary dismissal of the governor of Brasilia, Ibaneis Rocha, after the anti-democratic acts that took place on Sunday, with the assault on the headquarters of the three powers. Replacing Rocha, she will be the lieutenant governor Celina Leão who will assume the leadership of the capital.

For his part, the president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, has assured that the “fascist vandals” will be “found” and “punished”, as well as their financiers. The progressive president has described as “barbarism” the serious altercations registered in the Brazilian capital by radicals of the extreme right, who have been “stimulated” by the ex-governor, according to Lula.

“The country needs normality, respect and work” to achieve “progress and social justice”, says a joint note signed by Lula, the heads of Congress and the president of the Supreme Court, Rose Weber.

The highest representatives of the three powers have met this Monday to analyze the serious crisis experienced in the Brazilian capital on Sunday. In the note, they have rejected the “terrorist, vandalism, criminal and coup acts” that occurred in Brasilia and have stressed that they are “united so that all institutional measures are taken, in the terms” established by “Brazilian laws”.

“We call on society to maintain serenity, in defense of peace and democracy in our homeland,” says the note, on which, in addition to Lula and Weber, the president of the Chamber of Deputies has also stamped his signature, Arthur Liraand the acting head of the Senate, Veneziano Vital do Rêgo.
