The freezing storm Elliot leaves at least 22 people dead and power outages in North America


The arctic air storm, which affects the United States and Canada, has plummeted the thermometers and brought heavy snowfall to the east of the continent.

At least 22 people have died in USA because of the Elliot storm, of extremely low temperatures, which hits the eastern half of the North American continent.

The storm, a cyclonic bomb caused by an arctic air front, has been causing freezing temperatures since Thursday from Canada to Texas, in addition to heavy snowfall, strong winds and rain in almost the entire territory.

According to information collected by the US television network CNN, eight people have died in Ohio, three in Kansas, New York and Kentucky, two in Colorado and one each in Missouri, Tennessee and Wisconsin.

Also, more than 315,000 homes and businesses have been left without electricity because of the storms. In a time of increased travel, during Christmas, more than 3,300 flights have been canceled on Christmas Eve, and so far, 800 on Christmas Day.

According to the US media, weather forecasts suggest that the storm will be accompanied in the coming hours by heavy snowfall, blizzards and even flooding in some parts of the northeast coast. At the moment there is no truce in sight until after Christmas Day.
