The Secretary of State of the United States, Antony Blinken, has announced this Wednesday a new package of military aid for Ukraine of 1.85 billion dollars which for the first time includes the Patriot missile system.

The leader of US diplomacy has made this announcement a few hours after the President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky, was received by his US counterpart, Joe Biden, at the White House, in his first trip since the beginning of the war in the European country.

Biden has conveyed to his Ukrainian counterpart his desire that the war end with a “just peace”, while Zelenski has taken the opportunity to thank Washington for its support and remember that the fight continues.

With the help known this Wednesday –the twenty-eighth package since August 2021–, they are already $21.9 billion those destined for Ukraine by the Administration of President Joe Biden.

Blinken has noted that Patriot missiles are “capable of shooting down cruise missiles, short-range ballistic missiles, and aircraft at significantly higher altitudes than previous defense systems provided.”

“We will continue to support Ukraine for as long as it takes, so that kyiv can continue to defend itself and arrive at the negotiating table in the best possible position when the time comes,” stressed the head of US diplomacy, who praised the “extraordinary bravery” of the Ukrainian people in the face of “brutal attacks” by Russia.

Putin says there are no limitations on the financing of the Russian Army

For his part, Russian President Vladimir Putin has inaugurated a meeting with the senior staff of the country’s Defense Ministry. “We do not have any type of financing limitations, the country and the Government give everything the Army asks for, everything,” he stated.

In this sense, Putin has ensured that each platoon of the Russian Army must have a drone to combat the “enemy” in Ukraine, whose territory has been bombarded in recent months by Russia with drones made in countries like Iran.

The Russian president has also approved the proposal to extend the 30 years the age at which Russian citizens can be called up.

Finally, Putin has called for improving the capacity of the nuclear triad of the country made up of strategic aviation, intercontinental missiles and atomic submarines.
