In an unexpected speech to the nation, hours before debating a vacancy motion in Parliament, Castillo has announced the dissolution of the Chamber and the creation of an emergency government.
“In response to the citizen claim throughout the country, we made the decision to establish an emergency government aimed at establishing the rule of law and democracy, for which purpose the following measures are issued: temporarily dissolve the Congress of the Republic and establish an exceptional emergency government”, he announced.
The Police rejected the “breaking of the constitutional order” and has urged the public “to respect the Political Constitution and to remain calm”, as well as to “trust in the institutions of the State”.
