The ukrainian army has maintained this Wednesday its challenge to the Russian decision to annex part of its territory, with advances in the south and east of the countrywhile Moscow has admitted a withdrawal which he has described as a regrouping of troops, and has attacked with drones near the capital, kyiv.

Ukrainian troops have advanced positions in the Kherson region in the south, they are approaching the complete liberation of the Kharkov province, and they say they are making progress in the Lugansk district in the east of the country. “The ‘disinvasion’ of Lugansk is underway,” Sergiy Gayday, the head of the region’s military administration, announced on Telegram, saying that “several settlements” had been liberated by the Ukrainian Army.

Gayday has appealed to the residents of the Russian-occupied territories to leave so as to avoid civilian casualties in the coming fighting. He has warned that Russian forces are preparing to defend Kreminna, saying capturing Kreminna would allow Ukrainian troops to attack larger cities such as Starobilsk, Severodonetsk and Rubizhne.

Ukrainian advances west of Lugansk mean that none of the regions formally annexed by Russia are under full control of Moscow authorities. On Tuesday, the liberation of several settlements near Borova, east of the Oskil River, in the Kharkov district, was confirmed, opening the way to the north of Luhansk and leaving only part of that region in Russian hands.

The biggest advance has been in Kherson, where a significant portion of territory west of the Dnipro River, including the main city, remains in Russian hands.

Russia claims it is a regrouping in Kherson

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Army has assured that the Russian troops in the area “are demoralized and in retreat” and are trying to blow up bridges and crossings, as well as mine abandoned settlements, to slow down the advance of the Ukrainian troops. But the Russian Army has assured that what Ukraine calls a withdrawal is a regrouping in Kherson, to regain strength and strike back in response to the Ukrainian counteroffensiveaccording to the pro-Russian deputy head of the Military-Civil Administration in this southern province annexed by Russia, Kiril Stremoúsov.

In Moscow, meanwhile, it is assured that the Russian Army will “recover” the towns lost during the Ukrainian offensive in territory annexed by Russia. At the other end of Ukraine, it is known that Russian forces attacked the city of Bila Tserkva, some 80 kilometers south of kyiv, on Tuesday night with Iranian-made “kamikaze drones”, causing at least one injury and damage to local infrastructure.
