AMD launches investigation into company hack that leaked 450 gigabytes of data
AMD announced that they would launch an investigation into the hacking of the company’s servers and data leakage. This is reported by BleepingComputer.
Thus, the company confirmed the fact of hacking of internal equipment and data theft. “An investigation is currently underway,” the corporation said. The hacker group RansomHouse claimed responsibility for the hack.
Previously, the hacker community announced that the AMD hack took place in 2021. The attack allegedly resulted in the theft of a 450 gigabyte data array. Representatives of the group said that the AMD internal network remained under the control of hackers until January 5, 2022. The archive of stolen data included a list of more than 70,000 devices owned by the corporation, as well as data on the accounts of AMD employees.
RansomHouse said they did not try to demand a ransom: “It will be more profitable to sell the data than to wait for the AMD bureaucrats to respond.” According to the hackers, the stolen information is valuable, as the data includes research and financial information about the corporation. Journalists noted that one of the victims of the hacker group was also Africa’s largest supermarket chain Shoprite Holdings, which confirmed the fact of a cyber attack.
In early March, the largest US processor manufacturers Intel and AMD officially suspended deliveries of their products to Russia. Corporation chips are used by the largest Russian companies for their supercomputers.
