Apple Launches iPhone Self-Repair Program in the US

Apple has launched the Self Service Repair program for self-repair of the brand’s appliances. This is reported on the company’s website.

As part of the program, Apple customers will be able to purchase smartphone components and download repair instructions. An online spare parts store with recommendations for repairs is available on the project website. At the time of the launch of the program, spare parts and instructions for repairing iPhone 12, iPhone 13 and iPhone SE third generation smartphones are available. Self Service Repair is open to users from the United States, until the end of the year, residents of Europe will be able to start buying spare parts.

“Every original Apple part is designed and engineered for every product and is rigorously tested to ensure the highest quality, safety and reliability,” the company said.

Apple clarified that the available parts do not differ from those supplied to authorized service centers. Representatives of the company noted that more than 200 positions are currently available in the store. The iPhone 12 Battery Replacement Kit is $71 and the iPhone 13 Pro Max Display is $312.

Enthusiasts from the iFixit project noticed that Apple introduced a restriction on the purchase of spare parts – apparently, as part of the fight against resale. To purchase parts, you must enter the serial number of the device or IMEI. A specific part can only be installed on the iPhone whose IMEI was specified at checkout.

At the end of November 2021, Apple announced the emergence of a self-repair program for the brand’s equipment. As part of the project, iPhone and Mac owners will be able to purchase spare parts, instructions and repair their devices at home.
