“Hardware subscription” – Apple wants to introduce such a solution. Users deciding to subscribe could rent devices or receive a new smartphone model every year. In this way, the company wants to become independent from intermediaries selling iPhones.
Apple. Installment smartphones
The American portal Bloomberg presents data which shows that the average iPhone user replaces his iPhone every three years. Ten years ago, such exchanges happened faster. Users then replaced their smartphones every two years. The subscription system would restore this state and make consumers buy new phones more often. The solution has another plus for: Apple would recover old hardware and sell it on the secondary market.
According to this system, the cost of the telephone would be spread over 24 months, and when the installments were repaid, the device would become the property of the customer forever. However, there is a trick – after paying half the amount (after 12 months), you can replace the device with a newer one and pay the installments again.

How much will Apple earn from “subscriptions”?
According to Bloomberg’s calculations, if such a system started working for good, the company could record huge benefits. Based on the example of the iPhone 13, which currently costs $ 799, it would be rented for $ 35 per month. If the user were to “lease” for three years – Apple would pay $ 1,260. That’s a whopping $ 461 more for an iPhone for the American brand.
The cited data are only the predictions of Bloomberg’s journalists. Nevertheless, there is huge potential for Apple to increase revenues in the new solutions. Apple users are known to be attached to this company. The ability to return devices directly to Apple can tie them even more. For the company, it is a chance to earn money on the secondary market.
