Ban TikTok leaky like a sieve. Russian propaganda is breaking through the blockade

The owner of TikTok (the Chinese company ByteDance) imposed a blockade on Russian channels at the beginning of March this year, when the possibility of adding new films and broadcasting live in Russia was suspended in Russia, and the Kremlin-controlled channels were marked with an appropriate annotation informing about this fact.

Russian propaganda is breaking through on TikTok

Now, a month after applying the blockage, it turns out that it is not entirely effective. As they report, Russian propaganda media is still active to some extent. Russia Today TV broadcasting deceptive content about the war last on March 28, and Sputnik on March 29.

Sputnik’s Spanish-language account was still active on April 10, however. The Russian press agency RIA Novosti, which is also controlled by Moscow, is also expected to operate on TikTok. The agency suggested, among other things, that Ukrainians would be to blame for the war crimes committed by the Russians.

TikTok boasts of removing disinformation

TikTok that from the Russian attack on Ukraine on February 24 to the end of March, it removed 41,191 films about the war in Ukraine from the website, 87% of which identified as disinformation. Additionally, for 5,600 videos, prompts were added stating that the information they contained cannot be verified.

The social media service also tagged 49 Russian news channels with a tag stating that the media is controlled by the Russian government. During the same period, 321,784 fake accounts in Russia and 46,298 from Ukraine, which published a total of 343,961 films, were also removed. Not all of them were related to the Russian aggression in Ukraine.
