LeaksApplePro: Apple will not abandon the Lightning connector in the iPhone because of the money
Apple is not going to introduce a universal USB-C port in the iPhone. This is reported by iDrop News.
In a column for the publication, well-known insider LeaksApplePro named the reason why Apple has been releasing smartphones with a Lightning port for 10 years. According to the specialist, the company is not going to abandon the proprietary connector for financial reasons. The author noted that the IT giant receives a lot of money from royalties from any manufacturer that produces Lightning accessories – chargers, adapters, docking stations and other equipment.

“Apple is making a lot of money from these royalties and has no plans to stop that income,” LeaksApplePro said. Therefore, the company will not abandon Lightning in favor of USB-C, which is used in Android smartphones, due to the lack of an opportunity to make money on it.
The insider noted that Apple will replace the outdated port only when it fully switches to wireless charging and data transfer technology via MagSafe. The Lightning connector is based on USB 2.0 technology, which is why the data transfer rate over the wire is not high. According to the author, the data transfer speed will increase in the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. “The iPhone 16 Pro has a chance to become the first Apple smartphone without ports,” the specialist summed up.
Earlier, journalists found out that Apple has patented a charger that can communicate with devices. Theoretically, the technology will allow the use of charging accessories as a tool to protect the iPhone.
