He did not hide his joy and his first hug after finishing the test was with his mother, who had come from Machala to observe the competition of Yuleixi Anahis Angulo, who participated in the javelin throw, for the National Interclub Championship and the Grand Prix of Athletics, organized by the Ecuadorian Federation of this sport.
In the launch area of the Model Alberto Spencer Herrera stadium, in Guayaquil, the fight at the beginning was meter by meter with the Paraguayan Laura Melissa Paredes, until the Ecuadorian reached the mark of 60 meters and 22 centimeters, which became difficult to reach or pass for Paredes and the rest of the participants.
That record was a national record for Yuleixi since she exceeded the 58 meters and 94 centimeters that she herself had recorded in the Pan American of Costa Rica, in 2019. “The new mark puts me in the ranking World Cup and I am very happy for that”, said the pitcher who considers herself a calm girl and who stands out for her dedication and dedication to the sport.
Yuleixi started in athletics in his native Machala, doing combined events (hurdles, speed and throwing), “I stood out more in javelin throwing and I liked it from the beginning, that’s why I’m here now. I expected that record because we have been working very hard to achieve that goal”.
The record man Nacional was 11 years old when she began her activity in athletics and it was coach Flavio Corozo, from El Oro, who directed her to train javelin throwing. “Now I am with the Cuban coach Ramón Breto.”
Yuleixi remembers that success began to smile on him at the Sudamericano Escolar in Paraguay, he was 11 years old and only four months of javelin training. “I did not expect success to come so early and that is what I liked about the sport because it has given me the opportunity to get to know many countries and so far my best time is the 60:22 that I put in this Grand Prix”.
The marks of the 21-year-old from Ourense have been on the rise and she still remembers that she started with 54 meters. “I had been training very well with my teacher, we did not expect more, maybe one 60 meters and a little more, but with the 60:22 it puts me in a better place in the ranking world”.
Now the champion anticipates that she will participate in a training base and go to the Ibero-American that will take place in Spain, in May; and the World Athletics Championships to be held next July in the United States, and she acknowledges that with the new record “it allows me to get to those tournaments very well.”
Yuleixi says that with the new record he invites one to dream of an Olympic medal. “I’ve always said it, it’s not bad to dream and I’ve always stood out for achieving the goal I set for myself, for that I have to keep training harder”.
The Orense points out that she trains twice, from Monday to Friday, and on Saturdays, only one. “I make a combination between running, strength, speed and launch coordination.”
Sport is part of the life of the champion, who indicates that she combines it with her studies “I carry sport in my heart and I have been part of the High Performance Program of the Ministry of Sport since 2017 and I thank the Ecuadorian Athletics Federation for He has always been supporting me, my coach Breto and the El Oro Sports Federation”.
The 2021 Junior Pan American Championship clarifies that “I have always had the support of the institutions I mentioned, sometimes late, but the support has always been there.”
About the participation of the Paraguayan Laura Melissa Paredes, the South American sub-23 champion, said: “I know her very well, her way of competing, as I have always said, in the competition is where you see everything.”
Now the FEA’s bet for Yuleixi to reach London 2024 and obtain a medal does not scare the U-20 Pan American champion. “The FEA supports me, it is always aware, what am I missing, what should be done to improve my brand, I am infinitely grateful for that help”.
As a message to youth who want to dedicate themselves to sports and, especially, to javelin throwing, Juleixi points out: “I always tell my colleagues from El Oro that when you look towards a goal, you have to achieve it; leave many things aside, sacrifice to improve and obtain good results”.
The pitcher points out that she has many anecdotes, but she does not forget one that happened to her at the World Cup in Africa (in July 2017), where she had problems with her suitcase and even with her shoes.
Finally Yuleixi recognizes that the javelin throw predominates the technique, the coordination in the impulse, strength and speed. (D)
