JNCI: Smartphones don’t cause brain tumors

Scientists have disproved the link between smartphone use and an increased risk of brain cancer. The study was published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute (JNCI).

In the course of scientific work, the authors uncovered cases of cancer in patients from 1975 to 1992. Also, experts analyzed the period from 1995 to 2008, in which cases of diagnosing oncological diseases increased. The scientists stressed that the radiation from the smartphone does not directly affect the formation of the tumor. “We can be sure that cell phones do not cause brain cancer,” said study author Dr. Jessica Jones.

Experts analyzed the health status of about a million women in the UK. The study found that phone users do not have an increased risk of developing brain tumors. “Using a smartphone under normal circumstances does not increase the risk of a brain tumor,” said study co-author Kirstin Pirie. Doctors have associated an increased risk of developing tumors with poor ecology, contaminated foods and being overweight.

However, the study concludes that the results of scientific work may be limited. Experts studied cases where patients did not use their smartphone very often – only 18 percent of study participants talked on the phone for 30 minutes a day or more. Scientists have concluded that those who use their device moderately reduce the effects of radio frequency waves on the body.

Earlier, the candidate of medical sciences, urologist-andrologist Sergey Fesenko said that a smartphone carried in a pocket cannot cause infertility in men. The specialist noted that modern technology does not affect male fertility and potency.
