“Over the last few weeks we have not seen a situation in cyberspace that would threaten our security in any significant way,” said Minister Janusz Cieszyński. He added that this is due, among other things, to the quick launch of the alarm system by the government. He assured that it was working efficiently.

He made a similar statement at the beginning of the week. – In recent weeks we have not had any serious incidents related to the war in Ukraine – he assured.

The minister added that the government treats the threat of Russian cyberattacks seriously and that, as Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki recalled, therefore, the emergency alert system was carried out in advance.

The railroad paralysis was not a cyberattack

Speculation about a potential cyberattack intensified a few days ago, when there was a mass paralysis of railway equipment in Poland. Due to the occurrence of a failure in a dozen or so traffic control centers, a meeting of the Critical Incidents Team acting in accordance with Art. 36 of the Act on the National Cybersecurity System – informed Janusz Cieszyński, Deputy Minister for Digitization. Infrastructure Minister Andrzej Adamczyk explained that failures of the same devices also occurred outside Poland – incl. in several Asian countries. Alstom, the company responsible for the equipment used by railway workers, confirmed that the failure was not the result of a cyber attack.

Due to the situation in Ukraine, the third alert level, CHARLIE-CRP, is in place until the end of March in Poland. They relate to threats in cyberspace and are a signal for the services to be ready for action.
