Samsung has found a way to save money on smartphones

Samsung made fewer OLED smartphones than usual in 2021

Samsung produced fewer OLED smartphones in 2021 than a year earlier. This is reported by The Elec.

Journalists refer to a report by research company Omdia, according to which the Korean manufacturer sold 135.1 million IPS screen phones in 2021. According to experts, this amounted to approximately 50.3 percent of the total number of devices sold. Also during the same year, the Korean IT giant shipped 135.8 million gadgets with OLED displays, accounting for a 49.7 percent share.

Compared to 2020, shipments of IPS smartphones have surged by 41 percent, while OLED displays have dropped by 15 percent, analysts noted. Experts concluded that the unusual dynamics may indicate that the company has found a way to save on the production of equipment.

The report says that OLED screens are better and more advanced than legacy IPS panels. However, it is cheaper to produce phones based on liquid crystal panels. “Samsung is likely to deliberately focus on shipping more IPS smartphones amid global component shortages that are putting pressure on cost,” Omdia concluded.

In early March, Samsung explained the reason for the suspension of the supply of its goods to Russia. According to a source in the company, the cessation of supplies to the country was caused by problems with the shipment of goods.
