Microsoft announces suspension of sales of products and services in Russia

American computer giant Microsoft announced this Friday that it is suspending new sales of its products and services in Russia.thus joining other companies that adopted similar measures, after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

“Like the rest of the world, we are horrified, outraged and saddened by the images and information that reach us from the war in Ukraine; and we condemn this unwarranted, unprovoked and illegal invasion of Russia,” Microsoft Chairman Brad Smith said in a statement.

The company did not specify what it meant by the term “new sales” or whether it intended to remove unsold products from Russian stores..

consulted by the AFPthe firm did not want to comment on the possibility of continuing to sell products with stock in stores.

Smith added that Microsoft is ending “many aspects of [sus] activities in Russia in accordance with the sanctions decided by the governments”, but did not go into details.

The group recalled that supports Ukraine by helping to protect itself from Russian cyberattacks.

“Since the beginning of the war, we have acted against the Russian position-taking measuresdestruction or disruption against more than 20 Ukrainian government, technology or financial organizations,” Smith said.

Through his humanitarian organization, Microsoft claims to collaborate with the Red Cross and UN refugee agencies with financial and technological support.
