iPhone repair will be simplified

Apple will allow authorized service centers to repair the Face ID module without replacing the entire device. It is reported by MacRumors.

Journalists refer to a reliable source in the company, who noted that Apple will soon allow its partners to repair the Face ID biometric module without completely replacing the iPhone. Thus, the repair of American brand smartphones will be simplified. The innovation will apply to the iPhone XS and newer Apple devices.

The report says that an authorized service center will soon have access to a new technology to replace the TrueDepth module, which contains the Face ID sensor and front camera. At the moment, when repairing a biometric sensor, it may be necessary to completely replace the display or the entire device. According to the authors, consumers will benefit from the innovation, since it will cost them less to repair the sensor. However, the source did not disclose the new prices for the service.

The Face ID biometric module first appeared on Apple smartphones with the release of the iPhone X in 2017. At the same time, new repair recommendations will not apply to this device – the rare flagship will be serviced according to the old method.

In November, Apple said it would allow third-party service centers to repair the iPhone. The company explained that with third-party intervention, the Face ID security feature on smartphones will not be disabled.
