Sony will deprive smartphones of a free charger

Sony will sell new smartphones without a charger in select markets. This is reported by the publication GSM Arena.

Representatives of the manufacturer told reporters that in the German market, the Xperia 10 III smartphone will be deprived of a free charger in the kit. It is noted that in this case the recommended price for the device will be reduced by 10 euros. However, sellers in partner stores will be able to sell devices complete with a charger. The Xperia 10 III starts at € 429.

The company did not specify the reasons for refusing the free accessory. Journalists believe that this may be due to a shortage of components in the semiconductor market. “However, we have not heard of the shortage affecting the chargers, at least not yet,” the experts noted.

The authors also suggested that this trend could spread to other markets. Sony Xperia 10 III was presented in the summer, the device received a six-inch OLED screen, a Snapdragon 690 chip, from 6 gigabytes of RAM, a triple camera with 12, 8 and 8 megapixel lenses.

In mid-September, the consumer community in Taiwan demanded that Apple start selling smartphones with a charging adapter again. The American company stopped bundling iPhone with free accessories in October 2020.
