If you receive an email like this, it is not a hoax: the Police notice about the renewal of the certificates

The National Police has warned on social networks that citizens who have an electronic certificate will receive an email reporting that it is about to expire.

In a post on Twitter they have explained that it is not a hoax, but a “a real notice to renew the DNI certificate”. Along with this message they have attached the capture of a real mail.

In addition, they link to an article from the General Directorate of the Police in which it is explained that “one month before the expiration of the certificates, it will be received, in the email account that has been provided at the time of the issuance of the DNI , a email from the official address, warning of the upcoming expiration of electronic certificates”.

They also point out that the renewal of the certificates “requires the physical presence of the DNI holder at the issuing Office”. “There, making use of the enabled DNIe Update Points and after verifying the identity through the card and the biometric templates (fingerprints) captured during the issuance of the DNI card, you can trigger, unattended, the process of renewal of their certificates”, they explain in this regard.

It should be noted that the email that informs of the renewal of the certificates does not ask the citizen to carry out any procedure through the Internet. If there is something that makes you suspicious, contact the appropriate authority before providing your personal data.
