The Kremlin hopes that Russian figure skaters will soon be awarded gold medals in the team tournament of the 2022 Olympics in Beijing. So the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov reacted to the cancellation of the award ceremony, the words of which are quoted by RIA Novosti.
He also stressed that the country’s sports authorities are actively working on this issue.
Earlier on Monday, February 14, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced its refusal to award medals to the winners of the team tournament.
They said that the decision was made in the interests of all athletes, since the innocence of the Russian woman Kamila Valieva, who participated in the team tournament, has not yet been fully proven. For the same reason, the organizers of the Olympiad will refuse to hold an awards ceremony in a personal tournament if Valieva gets into the top three.
Earlier on February 14, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) lifted the temporary suspension from Valieva. The figure skater was allowed to participate in the individual tournament at the Beijing Games. Valieva’s dubious doping test became known on February 9. In this regard, the IOC has postponed the award ceremony following the results of the team tournament of the Olympics. The Russian team, which included Valieva, became the winner in this type of program.
