How to create your metaverse avatar from Instagram and Facebook

Meta, parent of Facebook, has introduced updated and custom three-dimensional (3D) avatars in the Facebook and Messenger apps and, for the first time, on Instagram, in order to move towards the implementation of the metaverse in all its services.

The goal of this update is to “give people more ways to express themselves,” as new features have also been added to existing avatars, the company confirmed in a statement.

With this update it is possible to use 3D avatars in ‘stickers’, publications, comments or profile photos on Facebook and Messenger. This is an option that, at the moment, is only available in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Furthermore, for the first time, avatars extend to Instagramboth in Stories as in direct messages (DM, for its acronym in English), also those that are three-dimensional. Until now, it was not possible to use them in this social network.

In order to implement more realistic avatars across its various platforms and complete its vision of the metaverse, Meta has also expanded the options for customizing avatars, with new facial shapes, skin tones and assistive devices for people with disabilitiessuch as wheelchairs, cochlear implants for one or both ears, and hearing aids.

These customization options are in addition to those introduced by the company last year: new eye shapes and colors, types of noses, beards, hairstyles, outfits, and body features.

Meta has indicated that previously created avatars will automatically update and acquire the three-dimensional format according to the characteristics of the previous elements. However, those users who wish to, can modify the new avatar model from the editor, details the portal Europe Press.

In addition, Up to three different avatars can be created: one for Facebook and Messenger, another for Instagram and a third for Quest. In any case, if users have account synchronization activated, any changes they make to the Facebook and Messenger avatar will be transferred directly to Instagram, and vice versa. (I)
