Research firm IDC has linked tablet sales to the coronavirus pandemic. This is stated in the company’s report.
In the fourth quarter of 2021, global tablet shipments reached 46 million units, indicating that devices are being bought less often than at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Shipments fell 11.9 percent year-on-year, the second time since the pandemic began in 2020, experts said.

IDC experts noted that the collapse of the market is due to the fact that users who are working remotely have ceased to be interested in tablets. Despite this, for the full year of 2021, total tablet shipments grew by 3.2 percent year-on-year to 168.8 million units.
“While 2021 has been a great year for tablets, shipments have begun to slow as the market has already passed peak demand in many regions,” IDC analyst Anuroopa Nataraj explained.
Apple led the segment in 2021 with a 34.2 percent share, according to a company report. The second and third positions are occupied by Samsung and Lenovo, respectively.
Earlier, Omdia agency experts said that sales of Huawei smartphones collapsed in 2021 amid US sanctions. Shipments of phones from the Chinese company dropped sharply by 81.6 percent from a year earlier.
