Introduced the first smartphone with a thermal imager

Cat unveils the first thermal imaging phone in India. This is reported by the TechRadar edition.

The American construction equipment manufacturer Caterpillar (Cat) has launched the S60 smartphone for sale in India. The device features a FLIR Lepton thermal imager with a 13 megapixel lens and dual flash. With it, the user can visualize the surrounding heat and measure the temperature of objects at a distance of up to 30 meters. The device documentation explains that the gadget is primarily designed to detect heat loss in the environment.

The rugged device received a MIL-STD 810G certified case according to the American military standard, with which the S60 can operate at temperatures from minus 25 to 55 degrees. Also, the device can withstand a fall from a height of up to two meters.

The new smartphone has a 4.7-inch display with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels, a Snapdragon 617 chip, three gigabytes of RAM and 32 gigabytes of internal memory. The device received a battery with a capacity of 3800 milli-hours, the gadget runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The cost of the Cat S60 will be 64,999 rupees, or about 62 thousand rubles. The device will go on sale in the Indian market.

In early 2021, an Apple patent for a thermal imager built into a smartphone was discovered on the network. According to the description, the invention allows the iPhone to be unlocked by the user’s face, even if the latter is wearing a mask.
