Apple’s new laptops have outperformed Sony’s next-generation consoles in performance. This is reported by the Notebookcheck edition.
The journalists of the publication analyzed the characteristics of the new laptops presented by Apple. Based on official data, it turned out that the power of the 14-core M1 Pro GPU used in the younger MacBook Pro laptop is 4.5 teraflops. The performance of the most expensive device in the series, which has an M1 Max processor with a 32-core graphics chip, is 10.4 teraflops.
For comparison, the power of the PlayStation 5 graphics accelerator is 10.28 teraflops. From this, the authors concluded that the new Apple laptops are more powerful than the new generation Sony set-top box. It is noted, however, that computers, unlike consoles, are not designed for video games. Also, Apple’s processors “on paper” are more energy efficient than similar components in Sony consoles.
“The new MacBook Pros are more expensive than the PlayStation 5, but Apple’s ability to claim a portable laptop that can compete with a high-end gaming console is impressive,” MacRumors wrote from colleagues.
Apple laptops were announced on October 18th. The MacBook Pro line includes two models with 14-inch and 16-inch Mini-LED screens. Depending on the configuration, the devices have M1 Pro and M1 Max processors.
