The founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates, has made two predictions about the future of the pandemic and they are optimistic. The forecasts, made on their social networks in conversation with the director of Global Health Governance, indicate that omicron is going to generate great immunity in the world, which will help to reduce cases in the remainder of the year.
“As countries experience their omicron wave, health systems will be affected. Most of the severe cases will be unvaccinated people,” Gates says. This is good, he believes, since “once omicron passes through a country, the rest of the year there should be far fewer cases, so COVID-19 can be treated more like a seasonal flu. “
In this sense, Gates does not see “probable” that the disease mutates and that the virus evolves to a more transmissible one, although he acknowledged that “we were very surprised during this pandemic.” Still, “omicron will create a lot of immunity, at least for the next year.”
On vaccines, the intellectual points out that it is “We may have to take yearly COVID-19 injections for some time to come”. With regard to injections, Gates recommends that they will have to evolve to achieve “two key things”: “We need vaccines that prevent reinfection and that last many years.”
