Apple will sue the British authorities

FT: Apple sued Britain’s authority due to the requirement to disconnect encryption

The Apple Corporation sued the British government because of the requirement to turn off the encryption for its users. This was reported by the newspaper Financial Times (FT).

In February, the sources of The Washington Post said that the UK authorities demanded that Apple turn off the encryption of user data and create a backdor for quick access to their information. In early March, Apple filed a complaint against the actions of the authorities in the tribunal on investigations – an independent judicial body of Great Britain, considering complaints of law enforcement services.

According to the interlocutors of the publication, the complaint of the American IT giant will be considered in March. If the tribunal for investigations recognizes the actions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Great Britain unlawful, then he will cancel its order.

It is still unknown how to consider the case – publicly or in a closed form. FT journalists suggested that the country’s authorities would insist on closed hearing for national security reasons.

The demand of the British authorities in February was criticized by US President Donald Trump. The American president compared the actions of the UK special services with censorship in China.

At the end of February, the Apple Corporation disconnected the function of improved encryption of user data in the UK. The company also noted that Backdor will not create at the request of local authorities.
