Apple eliminated the vulnerability that allows you to hack the iPhone via USB
Apple experts have released iOS updating, which corrects the vulnerability that allows you to turn off the iPhone protection. This was reported on the company’s website.
We are talking about USB Restricted Mode, which appeared in iOS 11 in 2017. This mode does not allow us to connect USB accessories to the iPhone or iPad without entering a password if the device was blocked at least an hour ago. According to Apple engineers, attackers learned to bypass protection using a system gap.
The company said that they eliminated the vulnerability and called on users to update their smartphones and tablets to iOS 18.3.1 and iPados 18.3.1, respectively. At the same time, Apple noted that organizing an attack with the help of such a vulnerability is “extremely difficult”: for this, an attacker must have special equipment and get physical access to the victim.
Engadget journalists noticed that Apple is traditionally in no hurry to talk about cases of real attacks due to vulnerabilities in the operating system (OS) of their gadgets. However, the problem of turning off the USB Restricted Mode was known a few years ago when the security researcher Bill Marchak from Citizen Lab spoke about it.
Earlier, European and American human rights activists said that the requirements of the UK authorities disable the encryption of Apple users will negatively affect the whole world. They called on British law enforcement agencies to abandon this idea.
