More and more people are giving up traditional gas cookers. Modern electric boards are not only more convenient to use, but also often safer. We have two basic types to choose from: induction and ceramic plates. At first glance they look similar, but they work completely differently.
There is a difference under the glass
Let’s start with an induction hob. Under the elegant glass surface there are coils that produce a magnetic field. It makes the pot heats up. The album itself remains cold. The heat arises only where the vessel stands. Therefore, when you accidentally spill the soup, it will not burn to the surface.
With a ceramic plate, the matter looks different. Ordinary electric heaters similar to those in the kettle are hidden under glass. During cooking, they warm up to red and transmit heat through the glass to the pot. The entire surface of the heating field gets hot – just like in old electric stoves.
Current uneven current
Although both plates are powered by electricity, they differ significantly in terms of energy consumption. The induction hob is definitely more economical. It uses up to 90% of the energy consumed for cooking. For comparison – Ceramic has efficiency only about 60%. The rest of the energy simply “goes into the air” in the form of heat.
What does this mean in practice? The induction hob heats the pot instantly, and when we reduce the power, the reaction is immediate. It resembles cooking on gas. Ceramic needs more time – first they have to warm up heaters, then glass, and only at the end of the pot. It is similar with cooling.
Dishes and plate
The induction hob is more picky – It only works with vessels that have a ferromagnetic bottom. How to check it? Just put on a magnet – if you hold, the pot is suitable for induction. The ceramic plate is trouble -free in this respect – you can use any pots.
Security
Both boards have a number of security – from parental block to automatic switching off. However, induction has a big advantage: its surface remains cool. This reduces the risk of burns, especially if there are small children at home. Remember, however, that the plate can be hot from a hot pot!
With a ceramic plate you have to be more cautious. The entire surface of the heating field is hot and cools for a long time. The advantage is that you can clearly see which field is hot – it shines red.
Cleaning after cooking
A smooth glass surface of both plates is easy to keep clean. Just wipe it with a damp cloth, and in the case of more difficult dirt, use a special liquid and scraper. However, you need to be more careful with the ceramic plate – Spilled dishes can burn to a hot surface. This problem practically does not occur at induction.
