9TO5MAC: Nokia employees saw a threat in the iPhone, but they did not listen
Nokia drew attention to the output of the first Apple smartphone, but did not have time to respond. This was reported by the publication 9TO5MAC.
Media journalists studied the internal presentation of Nokia, which was revealed by the blogger Fahad X. The presentation was released on January 10, 2007 – the day after Apple, Steve Jobs presented the first iPhone. The document came out under the heading “IPhone (yes, they called it iPhone).”
The material was prepared by nine Nokia employees. According to the authors of 9to5MAC, they saw a hidden threat in the product of an American company for their business, but Nokia managers did not listen to them. Journalists recalled that at the time of the announcement of the iPhone, the share of Nokia in the global phone market was 50 percent, but a few years later collapsed.
In the presentation of the Apple gadget was called a premium device, the sensory screen of which “can establish a new standard of contemporary art.” The device provides “simplicity of use” and “seamless Internet applications.” The company’s employees said that the iPhone was enthusiastically met in the media and Apple has a chance to create a new market segment.
Materials on the topic:
Journalists of the publication noted that the top managers of Nokia did not realize the threat that the iPhone could carry, and did not manage to adequately respond to it. “In just seven years, Nokia has gone from owning a smartphone business to leaving it,” the authors summed up.
In mid -January, the HMD Global Corporation stopped issuing and selling smartphones under the Nokia brand, the rights to which it owns. The company continued to sell only Nokia button phones.
